MEDICAL PHYSICS

Medical physics is a branch of applied physics, focused on the application of physics concepts and methods to the medical and health care profession.

The Medical Physics Department explores the ways in which physics concepts are applied in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases using different types of radiation and physics concepts.

Medical physicists are health care professionals with specialized training in medical applications of physics.

Their work involves the radiation protection for the facility and the risks of radiation exposure for the workers and patients, as well as the safe use of x-rays, radioactive materials, ultrasound, magnetic and electric fields, radiofrequency waves, infrared and ultraviolet light, heat and lasers in medical diagnosis and therapy.
